Boys Recreational Baseball Program
The Recreation Association of Highland’s Baseball Program participates in both the Community Baseball League (CBL) and the Suburban Baseball League (SBL). These leagues primarily consists of teams from the communities of Copley, Highland, Revere, Norton, Doylestown (Chippewa), and West Akron. It was created to provide the various players in the communities the opportunity to play against competition other than “in-house.”
For additional information on each of the divisions click on the links below.
- Rookie League (6-8 year olds): Transitional league from T-ball that provides instruction in positions, rules and game play with minimal emphasis on competition. Rookies is typically played as coach pitch.
- Minor League (9/10 year olds): Instructional League that permits growth in positions, rules and game play with added emphasis on competition while facing first or second season pitchers.
- G-League in CBL (11/12 year olds): Introduction to “traditional/real baseball.” Instructional League that encourages growth in a player's specific position(s), under rules that are less liberal while facing improving pitchers.
- F-League in CBL (13/14 year olds): Game play is at its truest form to allow players the opportunity to better themselves prior to potentially transitioning to a school based program.
- E-League in SBL (15-18 year olds). Real baseball at regulation sized baseball fields around the Highland Community.
ALL ages are as of their "Baseball Birthday"...age as of April 30th. This is a common league rule for both Rec Baseball and Travel Baseball. Those wishing to "play up" into a higher age division MUST be evaluated at evaluation day or individually by a Baseball Officer.
Our objectives are to teach the youth the fundamentals of the game, to encourage them to always strive to improve their abilities, to show them the values of fair play, and to help them work and play together as a team. In doing so, we will help the youth become better adults.
This is a rec league, which means the knowledge and ability of the players, managers and coaches will vary greatly. The league promotes “competition with perspective.” By that, teams are expected to practice and play with the intent to improve and to win, but at the same time, coaches, parents and players must understand that this is a teaching league first and foremost, and at no point should they employ strategies, behaviors or cheering that discourage or humiliate other players or teams.
Managers, coaches and parents should be dedicated to helping all the kids succeed in these leagues. At the end of the season, our goal is to have every player on every team feel a sense of accomplishment, demonstrate improved skills, and have the desire to continue playing baseball.
